Hello, and welcome!
Pass Political is a path through the middle of Canadian politics. With 2 towering political parties to choose from, it can seem like there is no route beyond those 2. The reality, I believe, is much more diverse.
How does this site work?
The news feed is an automated firehose: headlines are pulled in from outlets across the country. They are not curated, not endorsed, and I may not agree with a word of it.
The blog is one post a day, fact-based, and I try to inject very little opinion. The questions I keep coming back to: what is actually happening, and is it fair to the electorate?
Who am I?
I am s4rah. If you type that into any search engine, I am sure you can find me.
My values tend to align with people over corporations. A corporation has a legal obligation to put itself first, above its employees and its customers. That is the reality of corporate structure, not villainy. And the jobs corporations provide may enrich real people and even whole communities, which deserves respect. Both things are true. That is the nuanced reality.
And to be clear, I don't think the devil needs an advocate. But there are people who have a hard time advocating for themselves, and they should be able to rely on those of us with a stronger voice to stand up for what is right.
Why am I doing this?
Partly for my son, who cannot effectively advocate for himself, partly for my daughter, who is emerging into a brave new world, and partly because I genuinely love this stuff. However, if it were only personal interest, I wouldn't bother publishing. But I love my kids, and I have real concerns about the political landscape for disabled people and really everyone left on the fringe of the main parties. Most centrist people aren't politically aligned with anyone. This is for us. Let's keep asking questions.
